Welcome to LightBuckets!
May 01, 2008

I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome you to LightBuckets. Our goal is to provide you with access to some of the best astronomy instruments in the world, from some of the darkest sky locations available, at an affordable price that keeps you coming back. That's a pretty tall order but one I believe we can deliver on. To demonstrate our commitment to this goal, we are launching LightBuckets with three world-class deep sky telescopes in both hemispheres, with plans for many more. We also have a fourth observatory under construction and a fifth telescope is currently being negotiated.

In addition to installing and configuring our high-end instruments, we have spent much time and effort developing our web presence. We want to make these powerful telescopes accessible not only to seasoned astrophotographers and university researchers but to those just starting out in astronomy as well. As you explore LightBuckets.com, please let us know what you like and dislike. We are always looking for feedback and ways we can improve your online astronomy experience with us.

Online astronomy is a fairly new idea, one that I believe we have taken to the next level. In order to understand what we're about and what you can do with LightBuckets, I encourage you to watch and read the information at the top of the Learn More page. You will also see that there are documents in PDF format that you can download for even more details about a particular subject. We have included a comprehensive FAQ in both a
downloadable document as well as a browser friendly version in our Support area.

Signing up for LightBuckets is quick and easy. Just click on the Join Today button at the upper right of the page. You will be asked a few simple questions. You will then be sent a confirmation email to verify your email address. The next time you visit LightBuckets, just enter your username and password (be sure to click the "remember me" check box so we automatically sign you in the next time you return). From there, you are all set to purchase points and start setting up your imaging runs.

As an incentive to get started imaging with LightBuckets right away, we are offering special launch pricing on points purchase with discounts up to 10% depending on the quantity of points you purchase. We've also set special launch rates on each of our observatories...ranging between 10-20% depending on the instrument. You can get the pricing for each telescope in the observatory browser at the bottom right of the Learn More page or on the Use Telescopes page.

Thank you, once again, for visiting LightBuckets. I appreciate your time and your business and hope you thoroughly enjoy using the incredible telescopes and the easy to use software we've created to control them.

Best wishes and clear skies,

Steve Cullen

Any more news on launch date? Will there be any Beta testing and, if so, can users participate? JM

We are just finishing up testing of our light flat system. That is the last piece of the puzzle before we go live. The system is pretty well tested given the components that we use and we have done extensive testing of our own. There is no plans for a public beta. We are literally a few days away...we can't wait!
